SOOS National Nature Reserve

Category: Nature region: Up to 10km from Františkovy Lázně

The Soos Nature Reserve is located approximately 6 kilometres northeast of Františkovy Lázně. Relics of a salt-water lake may be found on the site, which has gradually transformed into peat bogs and mineral salt marshes over time. Apart from singular biotopes inhabited by protected fauna and flora species, you may also find traces of volcanic activity, namely mofettes – mud volcanoes emitting pure carbon dioxide, as well as numerous mineral springs.

A popular nature trail dedicated to geology, botany and zoology leads through the reserve. You may also visit a geopark, a museum with natural history and paleontological expositions, a display of life-size prehistoric reptiles, the "Avian World of the Cheb District" exposition, and a fallow-deer preserve.

The Soos Nature Reserve is open daily from mid March to mid November.
