The Porzellanikon Selb museum is situated in the former Rosenthal factory not far from the border with Germany and approximately 25 kilometres from Františkovy Lázně. On an area of 9,000 m2, you will find 3 museums, the expositions of which are focused on porcelain.
European Industrial Museum of Porcelain
This part of the former Rosenthal factory houses the European Industrial Museum of Porcelain, which present historical and modern methods of porcelain ware production. The expositions illustrate the production process from the making of porcelain clay and mould casting to the decoration of the finished product. An entire complex that had served as an energy generation facility for the production processes is a part of the exhibition. You will also find 2 fully functioning steam engine with a transformer station and a boiler room.
European Museum of Technical Ceramics
The European Museum of Technical Ceramics displays ceramics that many of us can hardly imagine. The exhibits include ceramic products used in aerospace, mechatronics, medicine, chemistry, etc. The display also showcases products of daily use that you would hardly expect to contain any ceramic parts at all. In a very attractive form, the museum expositions demonstrate the unbelievably wide applications of ceramics in various technologies and their major role in our modern world.
