The Gothic castle and Baroque chateau in the town of Bečov nad Teplou rank among the most prominent historical monuments in the region. Surprisingly, instead of being attracted by magnificent architecture and remarkable chateau interiors, most visitors come to admire the Romanesque Reliquary of Saint Maurus, which represents a particularly valuable example of medieval goldsmithery from the first third of the 13th century. It is considered the second most valued historical jewellery artefact in the Czech Republic after the crown jewels.
